Prologue

“Dude you’re serious!” Joey Fatone stood with his mouth open as Justin Randall pulled down the notice from the board. “Do you know what you are doing?”

Justin folded the sheet of paper and put it into his breast pocket. “It’s $2000 man, that means I can buy that jeep that I saw advertised.”

Joey shook his head in disbelief, “Dude by the time you get the money it will be gone.”

A large smile spread across the younger mans face. “Ah, that’s where you’re wrong. I called this afternoon and the seller’s flatmate said he had gone away for two weeks. So the jeep will still be there when I get back.”

“So you’re going to let a load of researchers do experiments on you for two thousand bucks so you can buy a broken down old jeep.” Joey rolled his eyes in exasperation.

“They don’t experiment on me, twit. It’s a social experiment, not medical. It’ll be a piece of piss, money for nothing.” Justin shouldered his backpack. “Why don’t you come with me? Just think what you could do with a couple of thousand bucks.”

“There’s no such thing as money for nothing, there’s always a catch,” Joey huffed under his breath. “When does this experiment start?” he asked.

“There’s an induction at 2 this afternoon. “

“And you’re going to go?” Joey asked hoping that he had changed his friends mind.

Now it was Justin that rolled his eyes. “Joey, I’m going for this. What’s two weeks of my summer vacation compared to owning my own wheels?”

“Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Joey gave his best friend a hug. “Call me when you get out.”
