Part 42

“I guess we should go now.” Jewel sadly threw a pebble into the water of the river. The stone made a loud plop causing a ripple; the circle got larger and larger increasing until it died away. That was the effect they were going to have on their small colony.

Joshua snaked his arms round his slender boyfriend and lover. “Come on Gem, chin up.” He kissed the side of the older boys neck causing him to groan and wriggle back against him.

“Wanna stay here with you.”

“I know baby, but we’ve already been gone too long. You go back first I’ll follow in a little while.” He turned Jewel round to face him, leaning in and stealing one last kiss. “Love you Gem.”

“ Love you too.” Jewel was sent scurrying away with a semi hard pat on his thinly clad backside and grinning all over his face.

He was still grinning when he arrived back at the compound. He hid behind the livestock fence as Jaren and Jared came charging out of the barn play wrestling .As soon as they had gone he made a dash for the house. He slammed the door shut behind him and leaned on it, his eyes shut as he hugged himself grinning from ear to ear.

“Where have you been Jewel?” His poppa’s voice made him jump.

“I … er … um .. The river. “He stammered guiltily and hung his head feeling a hot flush of red sweep over his fine features.

JC studied his youngest quad, he knew he was hiding something. He heaved a sigh and went back to his chores keeping one eye on Jewel. His baby boy sat on the sweethearts’ chair and gazed out the window, sucking softly on his bottom lip. Suddenly a slow secret smile lit up his face and his eyes shone happily. JC followed his line of sight and fixed his vision on Joshua, the still youthfully thin man watched as his best friends oldest son made his way back to his home. Jewel sighed and lay his head on his arms studying the slightly younger boy. A dark frown furrowed his brow as Joshua was joined by a tall athletically built girl who linked her arm with his and batted her eyelashes outrageously.

‘He’s jealous’ JC realised. JC put down the washcloth, dried his hands and slid into the love seat beside his son draping his arm casually round his shoulder.

“Is there something you wanna tell me baby?” he asked. Jewel watched as his sister pressed against his lover, he blinked back his tears.

“No poppa.”

“You can tell me anything, you know that don’t you my pretty Gem?” Jewel snuggled into his father sighing sadly. “You love him don’t you?”

Jewel began to cry.

“Hush baby, it will be alright. Does he love you?”

“He … he said he does.” Jewel sobbed.

“Then what is the problem?” JC stroked his sons’ unruly long chocolate curls from his eyes and let the boy rest his head on his shoulder.

“Daddy wants Josh and Sapphiee together.”

“Daddy wants his children to be happy, he has no idea that Joshua likes boys not girls, I had no idea he likes boys! I’ll talk to him okay.”

Jewel kissed his fathers cheek. “Thank you poppa and thanks for not being mad with me.”

JC ruffled the tousled head. “Git and do your chores fella before I change my mind.”

Jewel jumped up giggling “Why yes’um boss, anything you say boss. He did a mock salute still giggling as JC jumped up to slap him.

Jewel ducked, and stuck his tongue out at his poppa waggling his fingers by his ears, a serious look crossed his face and his smile slipped. “Poppa!”

JC swallowed knowing the look that was on his sons face right now. “Poppa how long?”

“I don’t know what you are talking about honey.” JC smiled brightly and hurried back to the dishes.

“Poppa, don’t play those games with me, I know things, I see thing, hear things that others don’t.”

JC shook slightly and looked his baby boy in the eye. “Three months.” He whispered.

“Poppa I thought that you couldn’t get pregnant anymore … how did this happen?”

“I don’t know, but I’m happy baby, I wanted this for so long.”

Jewel nibbled his nails nervously. “Does daddy know?”

JC shook his head. “You mustn’t tell him jewel, you mustn’t tell anyone, in a couple of months it will be too late and they won’t be able to take my baby away from me.”

“But poppa, you never recovered from Sapphiee, I though uncle Lance took all you baby making stuff away?”

“Promise me Jewel. Promise you won’t tell.”

Jewel’s world spun out of control and he suddenly saw his poppa laying on a bed a single red flower in his lifeless hands. “Poppa don’t make me promise.” He begged. If his father insisted on keeping his secret Jewel knew now he would die.
